The retail and service center for North Idaho, the Coeur
d'Alene area provides hundreds of shopping experiences. In
downtown Coeur d'Alene, stroll down Sherman Avenue's
"lamp-post and cobblestone" main street where for
generations family-owned stores like Sports Cellar and
Everson's Jewelry still thrive and trendy new shops and art
galleries abound. The Plaza Shops, an upscale enclosed mall
on Sherman between Second and Third Streets is also the site
of book signings, fashion shows, concerts and art displays.
From five-star dining and wine shops to brew pubs, specialty
coffee houses, ethnic food and family fare, downtown is the
place to be. At 11th and Sherman, the IGA grocery store is
handy for stocking up while away from home.
At the west entrance to Coeur d'Alene, Northwest Blvd.
takes shoppers to
The Village at Riverstone with a 209,000
square foot Main Street center featuring full-service
restaurants, a 14-screen Regal Cinemas, services and apparel
retailers. The centerpiece is built around a "Main Street"
concept with pedestrian-friendly avenues, retail shops and
restaurants on the first level with 122 residential units on
the second and third stories. Riverstone Plaza fronts on Seltice Way and will feature mid-box retailers including
Barnes and Nobel.
The rapidly emerging mid-town Coeur d'Alene shopping
district is home to eclectic shops, bakeries, pubs, fine
dining and entertainment. A few blocks from downtown on
north 4th Street, Safeway offers a full service grocery
store. Further north, are Towne Center Mall (located at
Appleway & Gov't Way), Appleway Square and Sunset Mall
anchored by major retailers such as Hastings Books and Big
Lots in addtion to local services and specialty shopping.
Silver Lake Mall (indoors at Hwy 95 and Hanley) has over
60 retail and food stores including major retailers JC
Penneys, Macy's and Sears. Also in the vicinity are several
national favorites such as Target, Ross, T.J. Maxx, PetCo,
Pier 1 Imports, Borders Books, Home Depot and Office Max to
name just a few. On Government Way, north of Appleway, major
shopping is found at Costco and Sportsman's Warehouse,
across the street from K-Mart. Further north on Government
Way are an assortment of retailers and small malls with
galleries, local crafts and coffee shops.
The residential growth of the city of Hayden is served by the
over 40 shopping, dining and service stores in and around
the Prairie Shopping Center at Hwy 95 and Prairie Avenue. On
Government Way, the new Hayden Creek Plaza is visible by a
beautiful multi-tiered water feature and quickly filling
storefronts.
Near the Washington stateline, Post Falls is the site of
the most exciting shopping news in the Panhandle, where
world famous outdoor retailer,
Cabela's opened in 2007.
Cabela's stores are more like cavernous showrooms, bringing
the outdoors in. They feature museum-quality displays of
taxidermied wildlife, large aquariums, indoor mountains, and
archery ranges. Other attractions include a restaurant, gun
library, and travel service where customers can plan trips
to anywhere in the world. Also in west Post Falls can be
found the North Idaho Factory Stores. Under new ownership
they are are poised to bring new, exciting retail
opportunities to the town famous for the longest "Main
Street" in America running west from Seltice Way through
town past Highway 41 on the east. Highway 41 at Mullan Ave.
is becoming a destination. A WalMart Superstore, with a
parking lot for RV overnighters, is surrounded by several
new malls offering local boutique shopping and an assortment
of dining and fast food options.
Touted as a "walking town," Sandpoint offers some the
region's most varied shopping experiences. A quaint downtown
area has dozens of unique galleries, restaurants, clothing
and gift stores. The Cedar Street Bridge, built in 1906 and
converted into a shopping promenade is also a tourist
attraction. Nationally acclaimed clothier, Coldwater Creek,
is headquartered in Sandpoint and features a storefront on
1st Street. In keeping with the ski resort and Northwest
ambiance, shops such as Cabin Fever Ltd., Molehill Mountain,
Pack River Potions, Scandinavian Affair and Snow River draw
shoppers to downtown Sandpoint and beyond.
The historic mining town of Wallace is famed as the
"Silver Capital of the World" with over 1.1 billion ounces
of silver produced in the Silver Valley since 1884. Every
downtown building is on the National Register of Historic
Places and appropriately houses over a dozen shops like
Idaho Treasures, Good Ole Days and North Idaho Trading
Company, featuring Idaho silver products and collectibles.
Visitors can still feel the presence of yesteryear when
strolling past the art, antique and specialty shops in the
center of town. It's a souvenir hunters' paradise.
