3 Post Falls Peak Fitness Annual Pump in the Park, 6 - 10pm, Q'emlin Park Pavillion on the Spokane River. Experience a 100+ person BODYPUMP class, followed by a full BBQ dinner provided by Rob Elder and the Hot Rod Cafe. Everyone receives a gift bag. There will be a live auction followed by great music by the band, Rock Bottom. All proceeds will go to the Boys & Girls Club of Kootenai County. 3-6 Spirit Lake A wine tasting, mountain bike ride, talent show, salmon dinner and car show are just a sampling of the fun Spirit Lake has in store for Labor Day weekend.

"Labor Day on the Grass" kicks off Thursday with the Spirit Lake Chamber of Commerce's annual Wine Tasting and Auction at the little park on Maine Street. The event begins at 6 p.m. with live music, local wines and micro brews. Wine Tasting & Auction - Roxanne Kusler, 208-623-5700

A bike ride benefitting the Spirit Lake Parks and Recreation Commission is set for the morning of Saturday. Following a pancake breakfast provided by Calvary Christian Fellowship, participants will be bussed to the Mt. Spokane Ski Area and ride their bikes back to Spirit Lake along 20 miles of easy downhill logging roads. Tickets for the ride, which includes a souvenir T-Shirt, are $35 each. The bike ride ends at City Park, where events are planned all weekend including live music, a mountainman encampment, booths, Old Ways Society, Dutch Oven cooking demonstrations and more.

Sunday's events include a car show at City Park and classic rock music by the J.W. Hardin Band and Muddy Frog Watters.

Monday is the town's annual Labor Day parade on Maine Street. The entertainment lineup at City Park includes the Jimmy Brown Band, Brad Sondahl and the VFW foot race and corn on the cob.

5 Priest Lake The Entree Gallery at Coolin Bay (Priest Lake) is currently showing "Expressions In Color", featuring the dramatic oil paintings of internationally recognized wildlife artist Terry Lee, whose work can be found in prominent galleries, and in private and corporate collections throughout the world. The show, which runs through the end of the season, highlights Lee's impressionistic style of broad sweeping strokes and layers of bold color, resulting in intense light and shadow. His use of large canvasses and vivid color create a strong sense of energy and movement, often causing gallery visitors to stop in mid-sentence when they come upon his work.

Visitors at the Coolin gallery will have an opportunity to meet Lee on Saturday, September 5th from 1-4 pm, when he will be on the grounds to demonstrate his personal style of oil painting on oversized canvasses. 12-13 Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes Meet the challenge! Cycle 150 miles in two days. Bike MS is scheduled for September 12 & 13 on the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes. Enjoy the spectacular fall foliage as you travel the historical Union Pacific rail beds along lakes, over the 3100' long railroad bridge and through the ancestral lands of the Coeur d'Alene Nation. This tour is fully equipped with three meals each day, rest stops every 12-15 miles, bike mechanics, medical support and Saturday Night Celebration. The $250 minimum pledge earns you Bike MS Long Sleeve Tee and terrific prizes.

Education & Support for Families Who Have Relatives with Brain Disorders (Mental Illness) Attend with other family members just like you in a confidential setting; learn how families unite together against this disability; find the keys to successful communication with your relative; take a fascinating look inside some of today’s current research on brain disorders; learn all about the biology of the brain disorders known as mental illness. The Keys to Understanding: The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is an 11-week course for families of individuals with severe brain disorders (mental illnesses). The course is taught by trained family members. All course materials are furnished at no cost to you. The curriculum focuses on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic depression), major depression, borderline personality disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and co-occurring brain disorders and addictive disorders. The course discusses the clinical treatment of these illnesses and teaches the knowledge and skills that family members need to cope more effectively. The Family-to-Family Course Topics Include: 1. Learning about feelings, learning about facts 2. Schizophrenia, major depression and mania: diagnosis and dealing with critical periods 3.   • Provide education and awareness of domestic violence and how it affects the community as a whole.
  • Support policies and legislation that meet victims needs and hold perpetrators accountable.

4 Coeur d'Alene Second Annual Suicide Prevention Walk SPAN Idaho is walking all across Idaho this October. We walk to remember one lost, and to save one still with us. Suicide takes a life in Idaho every 40 hours leaving behind devastated family, friends, co-workers and communities each time. Idaho consistently ranks among the top ten states in number of suicides per capita. Suicide is the second leading cause of death among Idaho's youth. Together we can change these statistics and save lives. By walking to remember those lost, we can also raise public awareness about suicide as a preventable form of death. We all have the ability to Save the One next to us - at work, on the school bus, at the dinner table. Join us in this statewide effort and help save lives. 208-290-6161

Daily Sandpoint Each summer, Pend Oreille Arts Council coordinates Artwalk, an exhibition of art by local and regional artists in 20 locations in downtown Sandpoint.  During the opening receptions for Artwalk I and II, locations provide beverages and hors d'oeuvres, and live music in some venues.  (208) 263-6139. 

 

Outdoor sculpture will also on display in various locations along the Artwalk.  During the summer, the public can pick up an Artwalk brochure at any participating location or at the Chamber of Commerce and take a self-guided walking tour of the displays.

3rd Wednesday Sandpoint NAMI Far North Regular Monthly Meeting. Consumers of mental health services, their families and friends, and all others interested in mental health issues are invited to attend the regular monthly meetings of NAMI Far North. These meetings feature an hour of education and relevant information presented by regional experts in the field, followed by separate support groups for consumers, family members and young adults between 16 and 24. Meetings are held in the classroom of Bonner General Hospital, 520 N. 3rd Ave., Sandpoint from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month except December. There is no meeting in December.
