North Idaho College, the University of Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College, Boise State University, and Idaho State University all have centers in Kootenai County. North Idaho Higher Education, located on the Spokane River in Coeur d’Alene is a one-stop location for access to all of the higher education opportunities in North Idaho. www.northidahohighereducation.org

Founded in 1933, North Idaho College’s main campus is on 44 wooded acres along the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene and the Spokane River. NIC offers more than 150 degrees and certificates in a wide spectrum of academic transfer and professional-technical programs. Approximately 6,700 students are enrolled in credit classes and nearly 6,000 participate annually in non-credit courses. NIC’s five-county service area spans more than 7,000 square miles. The college serves this vast region through outreach centers in Bonners Ferry, Kellogg, and Ponderay, as well as through an extensive array of Internet and interactive video conferencing courses. www.nic.edu

NIC’s Workforce Training and Community Education Center,located in Post Falls,  provides a broad range of credit-free business, professional, special interest and personal enrichment programs. Online classes are available. Also offered is assistance to small business and customized training for business and industry in the area.

Lewis-Clark State College – Coeur d’Alene  has offered bachelor degree opportunities to North Idaho residents since 1982. LCSC-Cd’A offers 12 bachelor degree completion programs to residents of North Idaho and surrounding communities in partnership with North Idaho College. Night, weekend and online courses offer flexibility for those who want to continue their education while working full time. www.lcsc.edu/cda

Idaho State University offers a Masters in Nursing degree that seamlessly integrates with nursing programs offered by North Idaho College and Lewis-Clark State College. ISU’s College of Pharmacy offers clinical rotations in Coeur d’Alene for students in its doctorate of pharmacy program. www.isu.edu 

The University of Idaho - Coeur d’ Alene Instructional Center offers certificate, undergraduate, and graduate degree programs. With its cooperative relationships with Idaho and eastern Washington institutions, students can finish various degrees without leaving the Coeur d’ Alene area. www.uidaho.edu

Boise State University is the only public university in Idaho to offer a master’s degree in social work (MSW). The Coeur d’Alene Advanced Standing Program is offered to students who have earned a bachelor’s degree in social work, while the master’s degree in social work program serves students who have earned bachelor’s degrees in other disciplines. sspa.boisestate.edu/socialwork

Riverbend Professional Technical Academy (RPTA) is a consortium of the Coeur d’Alene, Lakeland and Post Falls school districts, serving the eight high schools. RPTA offers advancedtechnical and specialized courses that integrate career and academics, designed to provide students with real-life learning opportunities. These courses include: computer and network systems, computer aided design, health professions and welding.

Firm Foundations

The North Idaho College Foundation was founded in 1977 to encourage private support for the academic mission of North Idaho College. The NIC Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of civic-minded community leaders. Each July, the foundation holds the Really Big Raffle. Only 5,000 tickets are sold for a chance to win a house, car, boat, travel package or shopping spree. www.nic.edu/foundation

The Panhandle Alliance for Education was formed in 2002 by a small group of citizens concerned about their public schools. Teacher and school grants totaling more than $320,000 to  every school in the Lake Pend Oreille School District have been made.www.panhandlealliance.org

The Post Falls Education Foundation was established in 1985 to offer teachers of all grade levels the ability to easily apply for grant money to reach beyond budget capabilities.  The PFEF’s signature event, Wine, Stein and Dine, has raised nearly $200,000 in the past decade.

The EXCEL Foundation funds grants to teachers in Coeur d’Alene School District 271. Striving for excellence in education, over $1,000,000 in grants have been awarded since 1987. Grants have provided classrooms with equipment and educational materials that support creative and innovative projects designed by the classroom teacher to enhance the curriculum. The EXCEL Big Event dinner, wine tasting and auction fundraiser is held every September.www.excelfoundation.org
