In North Idaho, outdoor sports and recreation are popular and wide ranging.  Whatever you might need to enjoy what nature has to offer, you can find it.

8:00-9:00am   Have breakfast overlooking the Spokane River at Red Lion Templin’s Hotel in Post Falls. Then drive west on I-90 or Seltice Way to Cabela’s at the State Line.

Cabela’s in Post Falls

9:15-noon   Cabela’s is an outdoor superstore with everything you’d need for hunting, fishing, camping and more.  The kids can see a veritable wildlife museum with countless mounts of wildlife and fish from around the world along with aquariums stocked with local species.  There’s a shooting gallery providing fun for all ages.  Make sure you have your cell phones to find each other in this huge store.

Noon-1:00pm   Time for lunch.  Cabela’s has an eatery with some exotic game on the menu.

1:00-4:00pm    Take an afternoon tour of stores in the CdA area starting with Orvis Northwest Outfitters at Riverstone on the west end of Northwest Blvd (I-90 exit 13) where you’ll find a fly fishing treasure trove.  Continue east on Northwest Blvd to downtown and check out Sports Cellar at 4th and Sherman for your ball sports equipment along with local team hats and shirts.  Another 14 blocks east you’ll find Fins & Feathers at 1816 Sherman, a local favorite where you can get the latest on area hotspots.  Head north on 4th Street (one way north) to Cast Away Fly Shop at 1114 N. 4th offering fishing equipment and casting classes.  North of I-90 on Govenment Way is Black Sheep, another local sporting goods favorite. Sports Authority recently opened in the Silver Lake Mall just to the north.

Late summer afternoons still provie time to hit one of the many parks to throw a ball or toss a frisbee.  Or if you want to try out that new fly rod or flies you found today, take time to dip a line into one of the area water holes.
